| Since the establishment of the international training center of the Beijing Union University, the number of international students increased quickly from a small number from a few countries to over 300 from many countries. The international students start the new semester in September every year at Beijing Union University. The students came from a diverse group of countries, including Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Cambodia, Thailand, Russia, Australia, U.S.A, Nigeria, and Spain. At the same time, we also hosted many short-term classes and educational and tour groups. For example, the students from Konkuk University’s Chinese Department who study at BUU for one semester, will get the transfer credit recognized by Konkuk University after passing the examinations. Besides Chinese language instruction, the students take classes in Kongfu, Taichi, Film and television, the Art of Paper-cutting, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese Folk Music. We also offer tutors for them to prepare the HSK examination. In their spare time, international students may participate in many free activities such as the tours of historic sites and world famous attractions in and around Beijing every month. In addition, students may have the chance to visit other parts of China. Every semester we offer sporting events and speaking competitions. All of the programs are designed to encourage the students to study Chinese. The experience our international students enjoy at BUU will build the solid foundation for their future work and education.
Chinese training courses and their teaching contents I. Long-term Courses (1) There are two kinds of long-term courses: half-year courses, and full-year courses divided into two semesters. First semester : from September to the following January. Second semester: from February to July. 2) Course topics: Students will enjoy an overall training of skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking and at the same time acquire an elementary knowledge of Chinese culture. In preparation for the HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test), students will be classified into elementary , intermediate ,and advanced classes according to their individual language skill. (3) Main subjects: The main subjects include Elementary Chinese, Speaking, Listening, Audio-visual Training, Journal-reading, and Business Chinese. A graduation certificate will be awarded upon passing the final examinations. |

| (4) Class schedule: Classes meet Monday through Friday. Four class hours are conducted in the morning, and elective courses in the afternoon, including Intensive Training for HSK, Chinese Calligraphy, Video Programs Appreciation, Chinese Folk Music, Taichi, Chinese Cuisine and so on. In order to encourage learning and enrich the extracurricular activities, students are organized to practice Chinese through visiting the scenic spots and historical sites in Beijing.
(5) Study expenses: US $900 for one semester and US $ 1800 for one academic year. The application fee is US $50 dollars. At the end of each semester, outstanding students may be awarded scholarships based on their performance. Holidays are arranged according to the Chinese calendar. II. Short-term Training Courses (1) Length of schooling: a period of time from two weeks to four months, with enrollment available at any time.
(2) Course content: Aimed at enabling the students to master Chinese pronunciation, basic grammar, and daily speaking in a short period of time. Various teaching modes are applied according to students’ different Chinese skill. A graduation certificate will be awarded upon passing the final examinations. The short-term courses focus on group training, and the time and content is arranged by team requirements. During the course of study, students are organized to take part in various recreational and sports activities, as well as sightseeing in Beijing.
(3) Study expenses: US $ 300 for one month, and US $ 60 for an additional week beyond four weeks. For those programs shorter than four weeks, the study expense is calculated at $90 per week.
3. Special Skill Courses Contents of teaching: Courses are designed to support the Chinese instruction, increase the understanding of Chinese culture for foreign students, and enable the students to master certain skills and methods in an array of specialties, including computer application, HSK tutorial, traditional Chinese medicine and pharmacy, Chinese diet therapy and cuisine, Taichi, Chinese painting and calligraphy skills, Chinese folk music, and Beijing Opera. Of these, HSK tutorial complies with the requirements of the examination program for HSK and is based on in-depth research on HSK to give students the greatest opportunity for success. Study expenses will vary from individual to individual depending on which programs they choose to participate in.
4. Bachelor’s degree courses in Chinese language and culture (1) Length of schooling: 4 years.
(2) Contents of teaching: We offer in-depth and systematic Chinese literature courses as well as various electives, which cover the Chinese word processing system, the introduction to Chinese politics , culture, and economics. In order to support language learning and enrich the student experience, four free extracurricular activities are provided each semester, including visiting the scenic spots and historical sites in Beijing. These activities are designed to encourage the students to practice their Chinese language skills.
(3) School-time: The new term begins in autumn annually.
(4) Admission requirements: Anyone with a senior high school diploma and good health may be admitted. Alternatively, those who have passed the examination organized by the International Students Office of BUU will be permitted to join the class in the middle of the course or directly join the corresponding grade.
(5) Study expenses: US $ 2,300 for one academic year; application fee is US $ 50.
(6) Certificate: Students who have passed all the courses and graduate oral examination will be awarded the formal Bachelor’s degree and graduation certificate issued by the Academic Degree Committee.
5. Introduction to other undergraduate specialties: BUU offers more than 70 undergraduate specialties, of which 16 are available at the main campus for international students.
Admission requirements: Those who have passed HSK Grade 3 or above examination, with senior high school diploma can apply to study in our university in their major field of study.
