Hangzhou Teachers University (HZTU) is now developing into a comprehensive university, with a comparatively complete coverage over the subjects of teacher-training and other fields. As one of the earliest universities qualified by the Ministry of Education of China, Hangzhou Normal University has been entitled to grant Bachelor and Master's degrees to its students and enroll international students.

Located in Hangzhou, a famous city of long history and rich cultures, HZNU has a Fundamentals Department of Social Sciences and 14 secondary schools with specialties of 29 four-year programs and more than 10 two -year programs. They are School of Humanities, School of Science, School of Life Sciences, School of Information Technology, Academy of Music, School of Physical and Health Education, School of Fine Arts, School of Foreign Languages, School of Politics and Economy, School of Educational Science, School of Law, School of Medicine, School of Elementary Education, School of Qianjiang, covering 10 subjects, such as philosophy, literature, law, economy, history, education, science, engineering, management and medicine. HANU has been entitled to grant Master's degrees to graduate students of Musicology, Basic Mathematics, Study of Curriculum and Instruction, Study of Chinese Characters, Zoology and Chinese Philosophy. HZNU has 10 key subjects of the college-level, among which , Musicology is the key subject of the province-level, and Study of Curriculum and Instruction is the subject supported by Zhejiang Province.

HZNU has modern educational facilities which include the Computer Center, Audio-visual Educational Information Center, Network Teaching Laboratories, Multi-media Micro-teaching Laboratories, Multi-media Classrooms, Music Hall, Artists Gallery, a standard 400M synthetic-track sports field, campus-net, cable TV and broadcasting systems. The school's library gives the access to over 1,100,000 book volumes and over 2,700 kinds of periodicals and newspapers.

HZNU has over 14,000 full-time students and over 20,000 part-time students as well as over 900 full-time academic teachers, among which, over 400 are professors, associate professors and senior research staff. HZNU has 20 research institutes (centers), such as the Research Institute of Master Hongyi and Feng Zikai, the Research Institute of Demographic Theory, the Research Institute of Territorial Culture, the Research Institute of Local History of Zhejiang, the Research Institute of New Chemical Materials, the Research Institute of Mathematics and its Application, etc.. In recent years, HZNU has made outstanding achievements in academic research. More than 160 projects have been undertaken, ranging from city-level, province-level to nation-level, and over 130 of which have been awarded the academic research prizes at different levels. Over 2330 academic papers and 209 monographs and translated works have been published.

Having established intercollegiate cooperation with more than 10 universities from the USA, the South Korea, Australia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Canada, HZNU takes part in the international culture exchange and extensive cooperation, exchanging visiting teachers and students, developing academic exchanging or running a school cooperative project with universities abraod. At present, HZNU is carrying out the courses for Master of Educational Leadership in association with the University of Canberra, Australia. HZNU has held successfully the international academic exchange programs such as the International Symposium on Ma Yifu, Academic Conference on Mathematics Education, and the international Symposium on Master Hongyi. HZNU has International Exchange Center for Culture and Education, a large number of students from abroad have been recruited by this Center.
Admission information: 1. Hangzhou Teachers College
recruits short-term students (1-3 months), general advanced students (1-3 years), senior advanced students, students for senior programs and graduate students. Students for senior programs and graduate students will receive graduation diplomas and be awarded Bachelor or Master's Degrees.
 

Courses and Curriculum  

   1. Non-degree programs

Short-term Chinese program

 

Courses offered are as follow:

 Compulsory Courses: elementary Chinese, elementary Chinese speaking, elementary  Chinese listening ,introduction to Chinese characters ,etc.

Optional Courses: Chinese Culture, Chinese martial arts, Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Chinese Cooking, Chinese Music, etc.

Certificate will be awarded to those who have completed all the courses required.

 

Long-term Chinese programs

 

There are three different levels: Primary Level, Middle Level and Senior Level.

     Courses provided are as follow respectively:

    Compulsory Courses: Elementary Chinese, Elementary Chinese Speaking, Elementary Chinese Listening, introduction to Chinese Characters, Mandarin correction , Intermediate Chinese, Intermediate Chinese Speaking, Intermediate Chinese Writing, Chinese Culture, Advanced Chinese, Advanced Chinese Speaking, Advanced Chinese Writing, Newspaper & Magazine Reading,etc;

    Optional Courses: Chinese Martial Arts, Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Chinese Music, Chinese History, Chinese Folklore, Chinese Religion, Chinese Cooking, etc.

Certificate will be granted when all the courses required are completed.

The relevant programs provided are as follow:

Modern Chinese, Ancient Chinese, Ancient Chinese Literature, Modern & Contemporary Chinese Literature, Modern & Contemporary Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy, Principles of Pedagogy, curriculum and instruction, Developmental and educational Psychology, Figure Painting, Landscape Painting, Flower & Birds Painting, Oil Painting, Calligraphy, Seal Cutting, Vocal Music, Piano Playing, Chinese Folk Music Instruments Playing, Folk Dancing, Conducting, Composition, History of Chinese Music, Chinese Traditional sports, etc.

Certificate will be granted when all the courses required are completed.

2. Undergraduate

        The 37 existing majors for undergraduates are as follows:

Pre-Schooling Education, primary Education, Education Technology, Applied Psychology, The Chinese Language & literature , History, English, Japanese, Economics, Law, Social Work, Public Affairs Management , mathematics & Applied Mathematics, Physics, Applied Physics, Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Information & Computer Science, Computer Science and Technology, Biological Science, Biological Technology, Environment Science, Electronic engineering , Musicology, Music Performance, Dancing, Fine Arts, Art Design, Painting, Tourism Management, Electronic Commerce, Political Education , Physical Education, Traditional Ethnic Physical Education, Social Physical Education, Clinic Medicine, Nursing, etc.

Undergraduate Diploma and Bachelor degrees will be awarded when all the courses required are finished and the requirements  are met.

3. Postgraduate

At present, 19 different master programs are available for oversea applicants ,they are : the Chinese Language and literature, Ancient Chinese Literature, Chinese Modern and Contemporary Literature, Chinese Modern and Contemporary History, Art , Musicology, Fine Arts, Chinese Philosophy, Principles of Pedagogy, Curriculum and Instruction , Developmental and Educational Psychology, Fundamental Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physical Education and Training, condensed-State Physics, Organic Chemistry, Zoology, Genetics and Ecology, etc.

Graduate diploma and master degree will be awarded to the candidate who has finished all the courses required and meet the requirements.

Fees

1. Tuition:

Non-degree students

each of the team studying Chinese for a short period of time: US$ 350 per month (Another US$ 100 will be charged for an additional week).

individual student studying Chinese for a short period of time: US$ 800 per semester.

individual student studying Chinese for a long period of time: US$ 1,600 per academic year.

individual student studying other specialties: US$ 1000 per semester.

individual student studying arts: US$ 1500 per semester.

undergraduate

student of liberal arts: US$ 2,500 per academic year.

student of science and technology: US$ 2,800 per academic year.

student of arts, physical education and medicine: US$ 3,500 per academic year.

postgraduate

     student of liberal arts: US$ 3,500 per academic year.

     student of sciences and technology: US$ 3,800 per academic year

     student of arts, physical education and medicine: US$ 5,000     per academic year.

2. Accommodation

Suite ( 2 bedrooms with a toilet, a kitchen and a sitting room attached):

US$ 7 a day for the bigger bedroom and US$ 6 a day for the smaller bedroom.

The above-mentioned fees of tuition and rent, etc. should be paid by the short-term students at the time of registration, and those paid by the long-term students, undergraduates and postgraduates when a new semester starts.
