NPU was founded in 1938 and situated in Xi’an, which was the world-famous ancient capital. Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) is the only multi-disciplinary university of science and technology featuring the engineering education of  aeronautics, astronautics and marine engineering and with the stress on engineering and with the integration of engineering, science, management and humanities . NPU is one of the 15 key university in China,and during the  "Seventh Five-Year Plan " and the "Eighth Five-Year Plan" ,NPU had been one of the university of state capital construction. NPU was approved by the state to be in the first group of university funded by"Project 211".The university takes an area of 28.000 acres.The new campus takes an area of 39.000 acres. There are 13 College,52 undergraduate specialties,90 master’s specialties,48 doctoral specialties,and 10 postdoctoral circulation station in the university.At present,there are nearly 3.000 master’s and over 700 doctoral students.There are 10 state key subjects.    The university has a long history and a galaxy of talent.The NPU will be built to a research and high level university which is first class in China and well-known in the world.The people trained by NPU are highly qualified and highly commended by society.

1.     Chinese Language Training Center   NPU is one of the institution which is approved by the state to enroll foreign students. The Chinese Language Training Center of NPU is established for Chinese Language teaching and training to foreign students. The Chinese Language Training Center for foreign students has teachers who are rich experience in Chinese language teaching and management and have a set of scientific teaching methods of modern Chinese language. Every year at the national HSK (Chinese Proficiency Examinations), most of the foreign students of our university achieved fairly good results, and the rate of passing the exams ranked forefront.. 2.     Categories of Foreign Students for Chinese Language Learning (1)            Long-tern students: Long-term students are the students who register to study for one semester or more at our university. Long-term students start school in February or September every year (They can also apply for entering the University at any other times. After entering the University, the students will be tested, and according to their test results, they will enter junior, intermediate, and senior classes respectively to study Chinese language. (2)            Short-term students: Short-term students are the students who register to study for less than six months.   According to different requests of the foreign students, Chinese language classes and Chinese culture classes are set up, and the contents and schedule of study will be decided by different requests. To the students who come for HSK exams, guidance classes before HSK exams will be opened. 3.     Curriculum Design   The CLTC sets up junior, intermediate, and senior Chinese learning classes including classes of   listening, speaking, reading, writing, etc. according to different levels of the students’ Chinese language. Moreover, in the light of the students’ requests and the number of applicants, such courses as Chinese literature, Chinese history, paper-cut, calligraphy will be opened. In addition, elective courses like shadow boxing and so on will be set up. 4.      Enrollment Requirements Those who satisfy the following requirements can apply for enrollment: interested in learning Chinese language and Chinese culture, age 16 to 60, healthy, willing to observe Chinese law, decree and the relevant rules and regulations of the University and respect the habits and customs of the Chinese people.

5.     Tours and Cultural Activities (1)            NPU will organize a spring outing and a Christmas Party every year for the foreign students. (2)            Foreign students are encouraged to take part in all kinds of contests of theatrical performance, sports, etc. organized by NPU. The winner will be awarded and commended. (3)            For short-term foreign students, Foreign Affairs Office will, according to foreign students’ requests organize them to tour some scenic spots and historical sites in the province or to visit some factories or companies in the city of Xi’an so the foreign students can understand the situation of cultural and economic development. The expenses of the tours and visits will be borne by the foreign students. (4)            There are various courses of Chinese culture such as shadow boxing and calligraphy for foreign students’ selection. 6.      Living Conditions (1)            NPU Foreign Students’ Apartment Building(FSAB) is located in the living area of the   University. Examined and approved by Government, FSAB is special for foreigners to stay and is safe, clean and convenient. Foreign students can rent one room of the apartment. Each room is equipped with a color TV set, an air conditioner, bath room, a writing desk, a sofa, etc. There are hot spring shower service and public kitchen. NPU has connected with Internet, and after paying a certain amount of money, foreign students can communicate with the world by using NPU Internet. (2)            There are all kinds of dining rooms and restaurants on campus and around FSAB, so it is convenient to dine in there. (3)            Near FSAB, there are hospital, stores, banks and a well-equipped sports ground. Foreign students can pay a sum of money for the usage of NPU gymnasium where they can find various sports apparatus. (4)            NPU is located in the southwest of Xi’an, and is easy of access. It only takes 20 minutes by car from Xi’an Railway Station to NPU, and there is a special-purpose highway to Xi’an International Airport. 7.     Expenses (1) Tuition: USD700/per semester, USD1,400/per year (2) Registration: USD20/per person/per one registration (3)            Living fees: larger single room 3$/day/room             smaller single room: 2$/day/room We offer the clean bed clothes in student's apartment , the charges for water and electricity are all free, it is very convenient for the telephone to use the IC card. (6)            The expenses for short-term Chinese-language classes will be decided by the time span of the study, the content of the study, the class hours, the tours and accommodations. (7)            Ways of Payment      ·Either foreign currency or RMB is acceptable. The exchange rate of foreign currency announced on that day by the Bank of China is the standard of the day’s exchange rate of foreign currency.      · Formalities for studying at NPU will not be handled if the tuition fee is not paid within two weeks after the arrival of the foreign student.      ·If the foreign student discontinues his/her schooling halfway, the student will not have his/her tuition fee refunded.   Apply now
