Shanghai University is one of the 100 key universities in China’s “211” project. It is located in the northwestern part of Shanghai, China’s economic, financial, trade and transportation center. Taking full advantage of the educational resources of the university, the college has adopted various teaching methods such as studying in special colleges and departments, or studying in language classes, or teaching students individually so as to satisfy the requirements of the students at different levels to receive various types of education, such as diploma education, non-diploma education, long-term and short-term Chinese training and so on. The college sets the time of study according to the requirements of the students. The time for non-diploma education and Chinese training varies from one week to over one year. The content of the non-diploma education is decided according to the specialty of the student. The Chinese training mainly focuses on Chinese language but some lectures and optional courses such as International Economy, International Trade, Chinese History, Chinese Literature, Chinese Culture, Chinese Folklore, Chinese Scenic Spots and Historic Interests, Chinese Calligraphy, Seal Cutting, Chinese Painting, Carving, Taiji Quan, Cuisine, etc. are also offered. The College has set up some language practice bases with special features for international students in cooperation with some institutions such as Taizhou Polytechnic College and Shanghai Mid-Asia Hotel so that they can not only appreciate the profundity of the Chinese Culture by themselves but also get additional opportunities of practicing Chinese, which is deeply welcomed by the students. Courses for the Foreign Students  Type Duration Courses Chinese Language Students 1 year or more Different Level Chinese Language Course, handicrafts and arts, Chinese cousin, and etc.. . 2 weeks to 3 months Mainly the Chinese language, focusing on listening and speaking; conversation, reading, listening, words and other language course; lectures are given on calligraphy, Chinese painting and Taijiquan (the Chinese Shadow Boxing) Other Courses Students can study in other department in the University.     Qualification and Term For Admission  1.Undergraduate: Applicants who have completed the secondary education, with the diplomas and school reports, more than 16 year old, can register themselves for the program. 2.M. A. candidates: Applicants who have graduated from universities or colleges, with the diplomas, school reports, and recommendation letters by two professors, can apply for the program. 3.Ph.D candidates: Applicants who have completed the master degree study, with the diplomas, recommendation letters by two professors, and the plans for the research projects, can apply for the program. 4.General Advanced students: Applicants who have graduated from high school or graduated from universities or colleges, with the diplomas, can apply for the program. 5.Senior Advanced students: Applicants who have completed the master degree study, with the master degree or higher, can apply for the program. 6.The Chinese language students: Applicants who are interested in Chinese Language and Chinese history & culture, at all age between 16-60(in certain case, no upper limit), in good health, can register themselves for the program. Students will be divided into several groups according to their levels of Chinese.
