Shaanxi Teachers University (STU) is one of the 35 directly administered universities under the State Education Commission of China (SECC).  University was founded in 1944 and is located in the world famous cultural and historical city of Xian. Just to the northeast of the university  is the well known Big Goose Pagoda (Da Yanta). If you start from the Bell Tower (Zhong Lou), the central city, a 30 minute drive down the broad and picturesque Changan Avenue will bring you to the classical---landscaped grounds of the University.

As a comprehensive multi—disciplinary institution of higher learning, Shaanxi Teachers University consists of six colleges, nineteen departments and twenty—five research institutes which currently provide 39 different disciplines. The University is authorized to award Bachelor’s, and Master’s degrees as well as doctorates in several subjects. It is also regarded as one of more significant universities for humanities and science education by the State Education Commission.

Facing the school gate is the University library, the biggest of its kind in northwestern China. The library contains a great number of books in a broad range of subjects. At present the University accommodates a faculty of 3120 and a total of more than 11,000 students working and studying on the campus.

Since the 1960’s the University has been admitting foreign students from many countries. Since 1980 the University has been playing an active part in carrying out  China’s open—door policy. Consequently, STU is pleased to cordially invite foreign students and scholars to study and engage in research on it’s modern well —appointed campus.

Programs Offered

A.Regular Refresher Course;

  1.Long---Term Chinese Refresher Class:

a.  Spring Semester:

To be registered between the first and the fifth of March..

b. Fall Semester

  To be registered between the first and the fifth of September.

2.  short---Term Chinese Refresher Class:

a.  December Class

Two or three weeks to study on campus. Commencement date is flexible: this depends on student’s reasonable requests and requirements.

b.  May Class:

To be registered between the twentieth of April and the tenth of May for seven to ten day’s study.

c.  Summer holiday Class:

To be registered between the 20^th of July and the 10^th of August for a study period of two or three weeks or one month.

3.  ultural Tourism Class:

This program is offered throughout the year. Each class will consist of 3 to 5 days’ study, mainly of historical and scenic sites in Metropolitan Xian. Each class requires a minimum of seven students.

B.Advanced Refresher Course:

Courses to be taken and duration will depend upon the applicant’s academic qualifications.

C.Undergraduates and Graduate Students for the Master’s Degrees and Doctorates.

  A four--- year course for undergraduates; and a three --- year course for graduate students either for the Master’s degree or for doctorate.

Expenses

A.Apartment room (with two beds): US$4 per bed per day.$8 per person per day

B. Dinning Arrangement:

Foreign students can choose to dine at the Foreign Guests’ Dining Hall, the students’ dining halls and the snack bars at their own expenses. Provision can be make for students to have meals provided for them; currently this is about 6 US$ per person per meal.

C. Tours:

Every two weeks,  an urban or suburban tour (to Emperor Qin Shihuanh’s Terra---cotta Army Museum, the Tang Dynasty Dayan Paagoda, Shaanxi History Museum, ect)’ and language practice will be arranged with free transportation provided by the University. Meals and entrance tickets to such activities will be paid by the students on their own. Tours to distant areas both within and outside the province are to be arranged in consideration of the students. If students wish to embark on long distance journeys, the university may be able to help with organizational matters. However, all costs will be met by the students themselves.
